Learn More About Laser Therapy Treatment
Laser therapy for vascular birthmarks is a treatment method that uses specialized lasers to target and treat the abnormal blood vessels present in birthmarks. Vascular birthmarks are skin discolorations caused by abnormal development or growth of blood vessels. Laser therapy focuses on birthmarks that are composed of blood vessels close to the surface of the skin, such as port wine stains or hemangiomas.
Types of Lasers
The type of laser used for vascular birthmark treatment depends on the specific characteristics of the birthmark and the depth of the blood vessels. Pulsed dye lasers (PDL) and Nd:YAG lasers are commonly used in laser therapy for vascular birthmarks. PDL lasers are effective for treating superficial birthmarks, such as port wine stains, as they target the red pigment (hemoglobin) in the blood vessels. Nd:YAG lasers are used for deeper birthmarks, such as hemangiomas, as they can penetrate into the skin to target the blood vessels.

Laser Therapy Recovery Process
The recovery process is generally well-tolerated. Temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, bruising, or possibly crusting at the treatment site may occur. These side effects usually subside within a few days or weeks. You will generally be able to return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.
