Sclerotherapy

The results of sclerotherapy vary from person to person. In general, treated veins gradually fade and disappear over a period of weeks to months. Multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve the desired outcome, particularly for larger or more extensive veins. Sclerotherapy provides long-lasting results, but it does not prevent the development of new veins in the future. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and manage underlying conditions to optimize the results and minimize the recurrence of vein issues.

Following sclerotherapy, there is typically little to no downtime required. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure, although strenuous exercise and prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for a short period. Some individuals may experience mild bruising, redness, swelling, or a small crust at the injection sites, but these usually resolve within a few days to a few weeks.

During a sclerotherapy treatment, you will lie down while we identify the target veins. The skin is then cleaned, and a fine needle is used to inject the sclerosant solution into the vein. The injection causes a mild burning or tingling sensation, and multiple injections may be needed to treat all the affected veins. The procedure usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent of treatment required. Afterward, compression stockings or bandages may be applied to assist in vein closure and reduce swelling. You should bring thigh-high compression stockings with you for the day of the treatment.
